| Portrait painter, said to be of Flemish origin. Working in England from at least 1739. The artist died in London in 1778. He began as a peripatetic portrait painter in a style related to that of Highmore. In Kent 1739 two portraits at Bradbourne, Bath 1743, Oxford 1745 two portraits in Town Hall, East Anglia from 1751 and at Norwich in 1757. He probably settled in London in 1767. He was friendly with foreign artists working in London and did portraits of Zuccarell. |
