Biography
| Born in Florentine, Italy in 1536 he was the adopted son of Agnolo Bronzino, Alessandro Allori's paintings featured stretched out subjects usually disproportionate, sometimes in uncomfortable poses amid a busy canvas with strong lighting and coloring, a style called Mannerism. He also mixed the styles of his adoptive father, called Bronzino, as well as the Michaelangelo style, having studied the works of Michelangelo Buonarroti and antique statuary in Rome during the late 1550's. After his return to Florence in 1560, he created an altarpiece which showed a heavy Michelangelo influence of the Last Judgment for the Montauti Chapel. His masterpiece is considered to be 'The Pearl Fishers' (1570), which shows nude figures in a lighthearted and an artificial look. The subjects in his works often seemed to reflect the polished, marble-like form of the statuary he had studied earlier. His other works include alterpieces, portraits, and tapestry designs. He died in 1607. |
