Biography
Labas Alexandre Arkadievitch (1900 - 1983). Born and lived until 1910 in Smolensk; lived and worked in Riga (1910-12), Moscow (since 1912), Tashkent (1942-45?). Studied at Mushketov's arts studio in Smolensk (1908), Stroganov's Arts and Design School (since 1912), studios of Rerberg and Mashkov (Moscow, 1915-16), under Kontchalovsky in State Arts Workshops (1917), under Shterenberg at Vkhutemas (1922-24). Member-foundator of OST (1925). Taught in Moscow and Ekaterinburg. Member of "Projectionists" Group (1922). Died in Moscow. Painter, graphic artist, monumentalist, scene decorator, designer. One of leaders of OST. In his best works, modern formal researches reflected new realities and rythms of his time. He revealed esthetical values of industrial world. Had a unique hand in painting (a blurred brush).
