Rousakov was a member of "Community of Artists" (1924-27), "Circle of Artists" (1925-29). He preferred themes from daily life, apparently unattractive subjects. His painting reflects what was once called "Monumental lyrics" by Favorsky. His compositions are built on decorative spots of freely and widely applied paint; they render the feeling of immediate presence as if no academic routine stands in the way.
