Biography
| In 1999-2000 Alison Wilding took part in the Tate project At Home with Art'. With other artists (including Angela Bulloch, Tony Cragg and Anthony Gormley) she was asked to make a sculpture in response to a particular home, which could be mass produced and sold at Sainsbury's Homebase stores. The family that Wilding visited was Hindu, from Sri Lanka and Singapore. Wilding's china sculpture represented what she termed the 'hybrid' nature of the household, a fusion of different cultures. It looked as if it had a function (as a bowl, or kitchen utensil), but it also seemed intriguingly different from other domestic objects, as if it wasn't quite at home among them. |
