Biography
According to her biography, Anne Seymour Darner: A Woman of Art and Fashion (London 1908), the historian David Hume spurred Anne Darner's interest in sculpture. Incensed by his declaration that women could not sculpt, she began to work with wax, and then marble, and the results excited his surprised praise.
Darner was known to have traveled; became involved in politics and pursued her art in earnest. Near the end of her life she asked to be buried with her sculpting apron and chisel.
