Biography
| Venetian-trained late baroque religious and history painter. One of the first of the travelling Venetian painters of the 18th century, having been court painter at Vienna and Diisseldorf before coming to England in 1716 where he remained until 1722. There is an enormous 'Family of Darius before Alexander' at Oxford. His chief patron was the Duke of Chandos, for whom he did much work at Canons, the ceiling paintings of whose chapel (c. 1719/20) were transferred in 1747 to the church at Great Witley. |
