Biography
Lakhovsky Arnold Borissovitch studied at Odessa School of Arts. Since 1912, a freelance artist. In 1900-1910, travelled a lot through Russia and Scandinavian countries. In 1908-10, lived in Palestina. Since 1912 - in St. Petersburg, taught watercolor painting at the Higher Female Architecture Courses. Since 1916, Member of the Fellowship of Petersburg Art Exhibitions; since 1915, of the Kuindzhi Society. Exhibited in the Academy of Arts, other groups and fellowships (10ies), Jewish painters and sculptors (Moscow 1918), the World of Arts (Petrograd 1922 and 1924), the Association of the Revolutionary Artists of Russia (Moscow, 1924-25), and the Travelling Exhibition of Russian Arts in USA ((1924-25). Since 1926, lived in Paris. Exhibited in the Salon des Independents, Salon de Tuillerie, in Brussels, Copenhagen, and Berlin. Personal exhibition in the Charpentier Gallery (1926), memorial exhibition (the same place, 1936). Painter, graphic artist. Painted with oil and watercolors impressionistic landscapes of Petersburg, Pskov, Tver', Caucasus, Volga riversides, Carpat Mountains, Norway, the Netherlands, Palestine. Wrote genre paintings, portraits. His watercolor "A rainy day" was bought by the Italian government at the International Expo in Venice (1915). His works were often reproduced by magazines.
