Art Beijing- Contemporary Arts Fair 2010
By Rebecca Rabb

Art Beijing is a contemporary art fair that started in 2006. Since then, the fair has gained tremendous momentum and attention on an international scale. Artists, galleries, and curators from all over the world come together and display their best work at Art Beijing. Even with a few set backs in 2009 from the economic downturn, Art Beijing continues to solider on and have high hopes for the future.

This year’s fair begins on April 26th and should prove to be a grand spectacle. According to the Chinese government, “Art Beijing has gradually become one of the most important international contemporary art activities, and social and cultural activities as well. “ The fair is not only supported by major art institutions world wide, but by Beijing’s Culture and Art Foundation, as well as Beijing’s Government. Artists from around the world are represented in hundreds of different galleries across Beijing. The fair claims that it “showcases the hottest contemporary art from Asia as well as other places throughout the world.”
Beijing is proud to play host to the fair because it is not only supporting arts around the world, but also helping to promote and bring international attention to Asian art culture. Seven thousand VIP guests attended the fair last year, and well over thirty thousand spectators came and spent some time at the different exhibitions that Art Beijing had to offer.

With the 2010 fair fast approaching, Art Beijing is committed to “building a higher level of international contemporary art platforms.” This year’s fair will boast eighty of the best galleries from around the world who will gather their most treasured pieces and display them for all to see. New to the festival this year, China promises to offer more modern and “innovative” facilities for exhibition.
With Art Beijing’s increasing international success, it is definitely something worth keeping an eye on. If you can afford it; it may even be worth the money to travel to Beijing and take a look for yourself. Art Beijing 2010 will kick off on April 29th and closes on May 2, 2010.
