Art Quilts XIV: Significant Stitching features a variety of quilts from throughout the country and Canada.
Background: "Sweet Dreams" was created by Virginia Greaves of Roswell, Ga. It is an extraordinarily detailed representation of a sleeping child.
"The most significant achievement of my life is my children," Greaves said in her statement about the quilt. "This piece portrays the purity in the face of my sleeping child and reminds me of what it means to be their mom."
The quilt is part of Chandler's 14th art-quilts exhibition. The event begins with a free opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The reception will feature a performance from jazz guitarist Pete Pancrazi.
Art quilts has grown from a largely local show to one that attracts a wide variety of
examples from artists throughout the United States and Canada. Themes in the quilts this year range from statements on forgiveness to peace to suicide. Almost all of the quilts feature intricate stitching.
