Edelman Arts Brings Alberto Giacometti's "Torse de Femme" to Art Miami 2009

MIAMI, FL.- Art Miami, the longest running contemporary art fair in Miami and the anchor art fair for the city of Miami, continues to be an important venue for high quality modern and contemporary art. In today’s art market, collectors are concerned about quality; they want the best possible pieces by well-established artists. One of the highest quality pieces of art that will be seen Art Miami 2009 will be Torse de Femme, a unique Alberto Giacometti sculpture at the Edelman Arts booth.
Torse de Femme was cast in bronze in 1948-1949 at the Fondetta Artistica Ferrucio Bianchi, Venice. The sculpture was made from a unique cut plaster cast of Walking Woman, an important full body sculpture made in the 1930s during Giacometti’s infatuation with Surrealism. The elongated forms of the Walking Woman echo ancient Egyptian and Greek art, but the fragmentary body is presented walking, as if encountered in a dream.
Torse de Femme is referenced in the Alberto Giacometti catalogue raisonné prepared by the Fondation Alberto et Annette Giacometti and in the version accessible to the public under 8 as: Female Torso (unique cast by Ferruccio Bianchi, 1949) Private Collection.
The sculpture was recently seen in New York at the Haunch of Venison’s summer 2009 exhibition “The Figure and Dr. Freud,” and in the Gagosian Gallery’s winter 2008 exhibition “Portraits by Alberto Giacometti and Francis Bacon.”
