Biography
| Swiss portrait painter in oil and crayons. Born Geneva 18 August 1712; died there 4 January 1763. He studied at Paris and Rome and was already in England 1743. His major work in England is the large group of the 'Children of Frederick, Prince of Wales', 1746 (Windsor Castle) which is something of a landmark in its informality for a royal portrait group. He was briefly in Ireland in 1750 and back in Geneva by 1751. |
