| Anisfeld Boris Israilevitch was a painter, graphic artist, and theater designer. He studied at the Academy of Arts under I. Repin, D. Kardovskiy. Joined the World of Art group. Participated in exhibitions of the Union of Russian Artists (1906 - 10), the Autumn Salon in Paris (1906), Secession in Vienna (1908), worked for a satirical magazine. His first work as a theater designer was a set of stage decorations. He decorated productions for Mariinskiy theater (St. Petersburg), Anna Pavlova's, and V.Nezhinskiy's ballet tours a.o. Moved to USA in 1918, he had been living in Chicago through his last years. Decorated stage productions for the Metropolitan Opera in 1922, 1924. In 1918 he exhibited 200 works that he had brought from Russia in Brooklin museum (New York), and then in 20 cities over USA. He participated in exhibitions in New York, Chicago, Paris, Philadelphia, Canada, Boston. After he had finished to work for theater, he painted and taught at the Institute of Arts (till 1958). |
