Biography
Caterina was born into a noble family in Bologna, Italy. She was educated at the court of Ferrar and became a nun in 1427. She was skilled not only in painting, but in music and illumination. She became Abess of the Convent of the Poor Clares and was canonized in 1707. She is regarded as the patron saint of painters, but few of her own paintings survive including one of St. Ursula.
