Biography
| Charles catton Sr. was a painter of landscapes, animals, and occasionally of portraits and history. Born in Norwich September 1728. He died in London August 28th 1798. Foundation RA 1768. The artist trained as a coach painter and revolutionised that expiring industry, becoming coach painter to George III. He also studied at the St. Martin's Lane Academy, and exhibited Master of Painter Stainers Company 1783. His most attractive works are modest East Anglian landscapes, e.g. Happisburgh Beach, 1766 Felbrigg, National Trust. |
