Biography
| Coplestone Warre Bamfylde was an amateur landscape painter in oils and watercolours, and etcher; he was a landed gentleman. Born Taunton 1720, he died Hestercombe, Somerset, in August of 1791. He made drawings for local topographical engravings 1755 (for later watercolours see Mallalteu). His local views are very competent and recall Lambert in style. He also painted fanciful Mediterranean landscapes which reveal a knowledge of Vernet and Marlow, two are at Stourhead. He sometimes collaborated with the Somerset figure painter, Richard Phelps. |
