Blatherwick studied design at Ryerson University obtaining a degree in 1984. He has his M.F.A. from Universite du Quebec a Montreal and a degree from Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He is a painter and encompasses the ideology of new media and the internet within his work. He juxtaposes the organic with the technological and the natural with the man-made.
