If I had to pick a favorite PAINTER, it would have to be Gary Baseman. I love his "I Melt in Your Presence" series, I actually have a print of the poster for that show in my bathroom so I can see it everyday. I love the way he places chubby, endearing figures in the most surreal and sometimes gruesome situations. Also, I really enjoy that he designs vinyl toys of his character since they already look like they should be in a cartoon (if cartoons pulled each others entrails out).

His art is very interesting, i love the characters that he creates. They look like cartoon characters but he uses them not always in comical settings but as you said, in gruesome situations too, but they still look cute. :)

I had actually never heard of Gary Baseman, so thanks for sharing. Is he a current working artist?

Yes, he's been producing for about 20 years and will be part of a group show October 24th in New York! I would go if I could!
