As a new comer to this forum call me naive but, I did not know how much I do know! I may not know the exact terminology for each and every type of art, but I do know I love it! All of it, to the serene quiet passages that takes you in and makes you feel as if you are part of that calm quiet place you are staring at. To and abstract crazy, colorful, and magnificent world of wonders. Nothing can stop you from feeling like you are an artist when you are focused and determinde to do what you have set your self to do. At times you may not know you have even stated the process of creation until you are actually half way into it, thats when you just let it be all I can say is just let it be! Whether you write or paint or scult what ever it is you like to do just do it, and let it be just let it be....

"just let it be"
good stuff... I wish, as artists, we didn't have to "explain" what we make with artist statements and what not. What if it is just to personal? what if we just had a creative moment and it doesn't really mean anything? can't art just be pretty sometimes? Renoir thought so.

Excacly, not everything is made to be defined, I agree Becky Rabb at times it's just too personal. At times you just want to do it for you and no one else, it's a piece of art that you wouldn't want to share with no one it's like a guilty pleasure all for your self! I know I have many guilty pleasures and I am not only talking chocolate.... painting, or drawing can be one as well,,, mmake of this what you want to make of it in the end the result is the same. Every one has their own assumptions and opinions of what the artist is trying to say with color, angles and so on but most of the time well for me I don't even know what it is i'm trying to get across until I am done with what I am doing. Very few times do I think ahead of what it is i'm goignt o draw/paint until it is done.....Thats when it all seems to work out even better like I said just let it be!!!

Well spoken words here guys! I couldn't agree more. Most of the time I make art because I love to, not because it has any meaning behind it. And when it does, I am not always so keen to share those deep emotions that I hold within myself.

That is a great idea a movement against having to explain our art,,,,, it speaks for it self :) I guess we all agree art is what you want it to be. As long as we the artist the makers the authors know the meaning of what we have done what we have created and are going to create the rest doesn't matter and for a reason JUST LET IT BE fits perfect in every way!

She's got jokes!
Ladies:
I'm in the minority. I like art definitions. Why? because it helps me when I'm looking for a particular artist or art work. This is true when cruising around the net. It's a handy tool especially when looking up old or new masters of the trade. There isn't a thing wrong with art labels.
