Rivera felt that his personal style of painting needed a sensual emotion in his intellectual Cubist compositions, and was inspired to understand the significance of Renoir’s paintings sensual style. Rivera adopted Renoir’s use of vibrant light and saturated colors to create an intimate moment in his works. We can compare Rivera’s Village Pres du Champ to Renoir’s Landscape near Cagnes to see the similarities between the two paintings; however, Rivera’s piece achieves a smooth texture and motion unlike Renoir which can be seen in the soft brushstrokes which make up the leaves of the foliage which are swaying as if wind is blowing through the field.
