Do you remember those optical illusion puzzles that were given to you as a child that makes you feel that the image before you is moving when really it isn’t? Optical Art or Op art is an actual art style that was termed in the 1960s which originated from the Bauhaus school in Germany. Op art movement started to pick up popularity amongst the public in 1965 when MOMA hosted the exhibition, “Responsive Eye”. The public loved the works but critics dismissed the style claiming that it was nothing spectacular and is just a trompe l’oeil. In the images below, tell me what you see.
