i'm not a professional artist, but I find myself paining or writing when I'm very emotional and I have a strong feeling about something. I guess I use paining as a medium to express my emotions and to "vent" out stress. Painting relaxes me and it's so interesting to see how my style changes in different emotional states.

Why people paint? Mmmm... Addiction?! Thats a good one, havent heart this answer before - but in a strange way - makes sense. I think if we will call it an addiction- its deffinately an addiction of a heart!!!!
What other art related things can you call an addiction?

I think it is definitely different for everyone. I do think stress, addiction, emotions they all play a factor. For me, I love to create, and I love the feeling of creating. I paint or write to get all the energy and thoughts I have out, to form something new and positive.

I paint to display the way my mind thinks. I like to visually create what is that I am envisioning my mind. Not only does this allow me to vent my thoughts and ideas, it does relax me as well. I think it's interesting to hear everyones motivations and inspirations.

I don't think my reasons are so lofty. :o
I pretty much just like the accomplishment I feel after finishing something after weeks of work.

Do you paint to "vent" and reliese the certain emotions? I know many artists do that - I never ever could.... I have to be focus and in the moment one hundred percent of the time to create.

I tend to paint when I get mad... Strange, I never thought of that! I think some of my best stuff comes out of passion... one way or another! I think you have to be passionate about something to make it work!

I just love to paint and to draw, i'm kind of addicted to painting. I only can paint when i'm in a good mood, when i'm in love for instance. I've painted on everythig, on clothes, walls, furniture. once, I even painted on food but that was just for fun.
That sounds great.Painting gives me immense pleasere too.Nature painting is my most favorite topic as i can attach close to nature and express through paintings.

Painting isn't really an emotional release for me as much as writing is. I get inspired by others' paintings and it makes me want to try things and complete a painting with a technique or style that I've been thinking about. I love painting and like someone else said, the feeling of accomplishment in seeing a completed piece after hours of work. I don't really paint to make people think or react strongly. I'm happy with a piece if it portrays skill and makes people like looking at it. I paint to produce pieces of art that people would love to put on their walls.
