Sidewalk Art

I am sure that many of you have seen images similar to these, if not the same ones, but it boggles my mind every time I look at them. Who makes the decision of when the art should be erased (I believe it is made from chalk)? I couldn't imagine working on a project for that long only to know that it will soon be washed away.

I love stuff like this. I've actually had the opportunity to take pictures on them with a friend where there was a bunch of art in Los Angeles not too long ago. A picture lasts forever!
