Ferg was a painter of neat small scale landscapes with genre figures. He was born in Vienna on May 2nd 1689. He trained and practiced in Germany and came to England in 1718. His manner is Flemish and has little British about it, and was much admired in England. His pictures are often on copper and some are engraved. His name is still recklessly used in sale catalogues. The artist died in London in 1737.
