Biography
| George Chinnery a portrait, and miniature, and landscape painter in every possible medium and usually on a small scale. The artist was Born in London 5 or 7th January 1774 .And died May 30th 1852. Entered Schools 1792 and exhibited 1791-1802, at first miniatures. In Dublin 1797, where he married, and became active in Irish painting affairs 1800-1802. He sailed for Madras and worked in Calcutta 1807-1825, when he moved to Macao, where he lived till his death. Painting all the time industriously and mainly on a small scale, portraits and scenes of Eastern life, in a very personal technique of considerable brilliance and charm. He again exhibited from Macao between 1831 and 1846. His work before 1800 consists mainly of neet small portraits in a style anticipating LinnelPs. |
