A portrait of Francis Blackburne,in 1777 St. Catherine's College, Cambridge, has a solid Yorkshire provincial air with no suggestion of Italy. About 1777 he retired to Richmond for health reasons and he exhhibited local topographical landscapes in 1788 to 1798. These are accurate in delineation but of a rather monotonous green. He was the father of George Cuitt Jr.1779 to 1854 who was a distinguished antiquarian topographical etcher and occasional landscape painter. |
