Biography
| George Farington was mainly a history painter. Born in Warrington in October 1752, he was the younger brother and, at first, pupil of Joseph Farington, but, aspiring to history painting, he transferred to the West. He entered RA Schools in 1770, received a silver medal in 1771, and gold medal for a history picture in 1780. He exhibited some landscapes in 1771 and 1780, and portraits in 1773 and 1782. In 1782 he traveled to India, where he worked mainly at Calcutta. He died while engaged on a large painting of the Durbar at Murshedabad in 1788. |
