Biography
| Giovanni Battista Innocenzo Colombo, an Italian-Swiss decorative and theatre painter, and theatre architect. Born in Arogno Province Lugano in 1717. The artist died there in 1793. One of a family of decorative painters, he began his wandering career at Mainz and travelled widely in western Germany, including work on the theatre at Hannover for George I. He was in England in 1774, when he exhibited four theatrical landscapes at RA and he designed scenery for the King's Theatre in 1774 and 1780. Long in service of Duke of Wiirttemburg and at Turin and Como. A signed example sold 12-14-1979. |
