Biography
| Called Palma Giovane or The Younger, Nigreti was an eclectic and prolific Venetian painter. He was the great-nephew of the painter Palma Vecchio ("Old Palma") and the son of Antonio Nigreti. After Tintoretto's death in 1594, Palma became Venice's dominant artist perpetuating his technique. Working in a mannerist style he soon found favour with the Venetian government, the Counter-Reformation clergy and many princely patrons throughout Italy and abroad. |
