Jean de Liege was active in Paris and employed by King Charles V. He ran an important workshop where he worked on busts, effigies, and statues. A statue of the royal couple Charles V and his wife, Isabella was created to adorn the great spiral staircase in the Louvre. He was also a prestigious tomb maker, however, many of his tombs have been destroyed. An exception is the tomb of Philippa of Hainault, Queen of England, which rests in London at the Westminster Abbey. He is acclaimed for his mastery of marble.
