Biography
| Monica Canilao is a graduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts with a BFA in illustration and currently resides in Oakland, CA. Her work focuses on what others leave behind. By re purposing materials, Canilao explored the beauty and life within things we discard every day. By stitching these materials together, she compares them to the bits and pieces that our everyday lives are made of, weather we can recognize them or not. This is exemplified by her heavy use of paper which is a constantly discard, and seemingly worthless material. By printing and sewing, she transforms the paper into something precious and lasting. |
