Neoclassicism
Art Fortune | Neoclassicism
Neoclassicism is an art movement that occurred in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, that brought on the revival of classic European art. This style reinvented the art and architecture of ancient Rome and Greece, and welcomed back the style of the Renaissance. The style incorporated classical styles such as columns, friezes, and pediments and also recalled subjects from classical literature and mythology such as “Iliad” and “Odyssey.” It invaded not just art, but also architecture, literature, theatre, music. Jacques-Louise David was a famous neoclassicism painter, who depicted many literary and historical scenes. Antonio Canova was a neoclassical sculptor who worked primarily with marble and is famous for his work “Psyche Revived by Love’s Kiss”
