Biography
| As one of eight children, Nick Cave emerged as his grandfathers successor (his grandfather being a poet and painter) after showing strong artistic and performance abilities at George Washington Carver School in Fulton, Missouri. He then continued to study art and dance at the Kansas City Art Institute before going to New York City to study with Alvin Ailey at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Cave also has a background as a high fashion clothing designer which is evident in his work. He is most famous for his "Soundsuits." These full body suits are heavy adorned with toys, beads, metal flowers, and a number of other reused materials that fully flaunt his talents in fashion. The suits are made to create sound when Cave wears them during a dance performance creating a whimsical and vibrant environment for the observers. Cave currently lives in Chicago's South Loop while completing artist residency all over the country. |
