Biography
In her book Unsentimental Journey London 1940 Nora Cundall described driving across America alone in the late 1930s.Cundall's book is illustrated with her oil paintings and line drawings. These include portraits of American Indians and landscapes. Madonna of the Painted Desert, a painting of mother and child, and Badger Creek Rapids, a painting of a stretch of the Colorado River between Marble Canyon and the Grand Canyon, were both exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1936.After training at the Westminster school under Sickert, and at the Slade, Cundall exhibited at the New English Art Club and Paris Salon, and became a founder member of the National Society of Painters, Sculptors, Engravers and Potters. Her first solo show was held at the Redfern Gallery in 1925, and a memorial exhibition was held at the Royal Society of British Artists in 1949.
