Biography
| In 1617, Brebiette was in Rome, where he stayed until 1625; he married in Paris in 1626. Although a painter of some renown, he was known mainly for his work as a recorder. His inventiveness impressions often prepared from drawings in pen and ink black, red chalk or chalk, reveal his artistic and cultural development during the 1610s in Paris, where it is inspired by the example of Ambroise Dubois, Martin Freminet or Georges Lallemand; his work also shows affinities with the Claude Vignon. Brebiette also was sensitive to the qualities of the former franchises and the work of artists of Bologna, as well as the north European artists such as Abraham Bloemaert. Mariette spoke of Brebiettes libertine verve, an assessment that sits oddly with the precious, Venetian form revealed by the sole paintings by his which until now have been identified: the signed the violation of Proserpine and the Sagrada Familia, which initially attributed to Sebastiano Mazzoni, but already identified with Brebiette by E. Jacques Thuillier from a recorded. |
