| Poet, humanist and a professor of philology at the University of Naples, Pomponius Gauricus, added to his resume by writing on the principles of sculpture in De Sculptura seu statuaria libellus. Published in Florence in 1504, De Sculptura emphasizes the importance of drawing in the sculptural process as well as the idea of sculptural forms taking on life and animation, such as in ancient statuary. He names Ghiberti as the father of modern sculpture and show his appreciation for the work of Donatello. |
