| Rafael Canogar is a Spanish abstract painter. He trained as a pupil under Daniel Vasquez Diaz and, being exposed to the avante garde of art, quickly became a student of the abstract style as well. In 1957, Canogar founded the El Paso group with Luis Feito, Antonio Saura, and Manuel Millares in Madrid, bringing together some of the leading painters in abstract expressionism of the time. Canogar was also notable for his dedication to the ideal of liberty and individualism in art and his opposition to Franco's fascist regime. |
