Biography
Rineke Dijkstra was born in the Netherlands and trained at the Gerrit Rietvald Acadernie in Amsterdam. She worked as a portrait photographer in the early 1990s before developing into a fine art artist.
Dijkstra has produced a number of series'": Beaches, travelling around the world - to Belgium, Croatia, England, Poland, the Ukraine and the USA - primarily to photograph of adolescents alone by the sea.
Recently, Dijkstra has photographed young soldiers in the Israeli army and the French foreign legion, picturing them during their training, a rite of passage into a new life.
