Rui Zhu born in Simao City in 1970. Simao is in the province of Yunnan which is located in the far southwest of the cou spanning 151,00 sq. miles. Rui studied at y Normal School where he graduated. He also furthered his studies of printmaking at Chinese Academy of Fine Arts. Rui works in reduction woodblock prints which is a technique for printing . Woodblock printing is used widely through out Asia but originated in China.
