Biography
Born and raised in Los Angeles and presently living in New Mexico, Stan Natchez has enjoyed a great deal of attention in European capitals. His work was exhibited in Munich, Berlin, London, Paris and Denmark during the last several years and a book about this Native American's life and art has enjoyed lively sales throughout Europe.

While Natchez classifies his work as post-pop, he's often thought of as a political artist. In large part, this is due to controversial images, such as baseball cards, The Yellow Pages, metropolitan newspapers, The Holy Bible and the American dollar, that complement more traditional elements, including elk teeth, beadwork and gold and silver leafing (to represent the mining of the earth;s minerals), in his paintings. "The dollar is perhaps the most powerful symbol in the world today", stresses the artist. "Thus I'm documenting what is considered important in these times. How these paintings are interpreted depends on the viewer".

Natchez's earlier works are often crammed with beads, sometimes numbering in the thousands. The painter first learned beadwork when creating the ceremonial costumes he wore as a dancer. (Not confining his creativity to fine art, Natchez has performed in powwows throughout the United States and in Europe.) It was this intricate beadwork that made Demi Moore the artist's first celebrity client.
