Biography
| Stephen Elmer specialized in the painting of those objects which are familiar to the sportsman, the cook and the bon vivant, Edwards. His profession was that of maltster, but he practised painting abundantly as a side hobby. He lived at Farnham, Surrey, There are a number of his pictures are in the local gallery in Surrey. He was considered the best still life painter in England of his time, not so much due to pure ability, but what he put into his works. The artist died in his home in Surrey in 1796 at the age of 82. |
