Tsukioka Yoshitoshi was born in 1839 and died in 1892, during the Meiji period (Enlightened Rule). This period of rule was from 1868-1912. Tsukioka was considered a genius. He was a student of Kuniyoshi. His '100 Aspect of the Moon' series of beautiful women made him famous. He did not find financial success until his later years. Like many artist of his time he was in a state of depression and also mental illness.
