Arenier (Paris, 1925), the Society of Moscow Artists (1928), The Four Arts (1929). Autobiography I studied at home; as a child, I was very nervous and sick. I grew alone. Contacts with other children were substituted by books. When I was a child I had a desire: I liked to paint. Accidentally I chanced to find myself in Voronezh, in the art workshops headed by N. Maksimov and S. Romanovitch. When I was 10, I knew already El Greco, Goya, French painters. Needs, bad health, colorless life were obstacles for my work. I developed a passion for Picasso, Derin, and later for Cezanne. In 1923, an acquaintance with Chekrygin's paintings was an extraordinary event for me. It was very close to my creative images. |
