Biography
| VALIE EXPORT was born Waltraud Lehner 1940 in Linz, Austria. The artist rejected the name given by her father and her husband and renamed herself VALIE EXPORT, capitalized imitating the style of a brand's logo. Her artistic work includes video installations, body performances, expanded cinema, computer animations, photography, sculptures and publications covering contemporary arts. She is considered an influential artist in the realm of feminist performance art. One of her first and well known works involved her wearing a small movie screen around her naked torso, expressing the ability of others to see but not touch her body. |
