Biography
| In 1903-08, Baranov-Rossine studied in Odessa art school, and in 1908-09, he studied at Academe of art (St. Peterburg). Together with D.D.Burljuk, A.V.Lentulo, A.A.Ekster he participated in the first exhibitions of Russian avant guarde. In 1910, he moved to Paris. He took part in parisian Salons - Autumn, Independent. In 1914, Baranov-Rossine had shown an abstract sculpture. In 1910-11, he worked in Scandinavia. In 1917, he returned to Petrograd, where made some pictures on revolutionary themes. In 1919 Baranov-Rossine taught in famous "State Art Workshops". At the same time he created the elementary abstract-geometrical compositions under the influence of Suprematism. He organized colour-musical concerts at V.E.Mejerhold's theatre. From 1925, he lived in Paris. Under influence of Surrealism, he developed a new plastical principle in painting and sculpture. He created coloured sculptures with the help of various materials. In 1930's, he created several new objects (machines) based on optical effects. In 1943, he was arrested in Paris, then died in a concentration camp. |
