Biography
| Wilfredo Lam was a Cuban painter who made work about the Afro-Cuban culture. He moved to Havana to study law, but ended up studying painting despite his family's disapproval. He moved to Madrid to continue to study the arts. There he studied under the same teacher that taught Salvador Dali. Surrealism and modernism are evident in his work. He had exhibitions in Madrid and Paris, and as momentum of his work continued he expanded to America and most of Europe. His work was referred to as "Picasso based Surrealism." |
