A member of the Haarlem school during the first decades of the seventeenth century.
He was also active as an etcher. Nicknamed "Geestige Willem" (ingenious or witty Willem). In 1613 Buytewech married Aaltje Jacobsdr van Amerongen; they had a son and a daughter.
