Biography
| Painter of marines, shore scenes and harbours, in oil and watercolour. Born in Scotland 1757; died London 27 May 1837. He started as a shipwright, but took to painting subjects connected with ships and the sea. Most of his oils are slight, with a good feeling for tone; his larger pictures, at their rare best, suggest a knowledge of Teniers and have a combination of water and land. |
