Biography
| Portrait and history painter William Artaud was born in London, March 24, 1763; he died there March 1823. He won precocious awards from 1776/7. He was working for Macklin's Bible and Poetic Gallery from 1788 to 1793. Artaud went on a traveling studentship in 1795 to Rome, Naples, Florence and Dresden. He returned to England in October 1799, where he mainly painted portraits, but some history and social genre paintings as well. |
