Biography
| William Elmer was primarily a still life painter, though he also produced occasional portraits. He was the son of Stephen Elmer, and also his follower. The artist was born January 6th 1762. A mezzotint of him as a schoolboy by B. Clowes is dated 1772. He Entered RA Schools in 1782. He Exhibited SA 1778-80 RA 1783-84 and 1797-99. From 1788 to 1796, he worked in Ireland with some success, and then returned to Farnham by 1797. He was not heard of after 1799. |
